America’s national parks are facing a major pinch. Visitor numbers are up 16% since 2010, while staffing is down 13%. And that was before last week’s massive layoffs: the National Park Service has since cut 1,000 more people from its workforce. This makes the looming crisis at our parks even worse. With fewer employees, parks could have to cut hours, cancel tours, and delay maintenance — putting more pressure on both visitors and the ecosystems we love.
